Computer Lab
So...you finally got a computer - now what? Come to the Keen Age Center Computer lab and let our mentors help you make the most of technology and the Internet!
The Computer Lab is a joint partnership of the University of Illinois Extension and the Boone County Council on Aging which provides open hours for Internet connected computer use as well as training by mentors who offer hands-on assistance on a one-to-one basis at the Keen Age Center.
Computer Lab Hours:
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.*
*The computer lab is closed during formal class training and for taxes.
Various Computer Classes are provided by Extension educators and trained volunteers by reservation. For more information, or to register for a class, please call 815-544-9893.
Class offerings include:
Basic Computer Class
This class is the Basic level in learning computers. Items covered will be learning the basic parts of the computer such as the monitor, tower and mouse; where different functions are on the keyboard and on the screen taskbar; and how to use the mouse; program icons; word processing elements such as fonts, styles, bold, italics; saving and printing documents. Class size is limited.
Beginning Internet
This class focuses on learning your neighborhood and the world through the Internet. There is a review of how to use the mouse. Then you will begin getting to Internet browsing with free Internet browsers and web addresses, working with Internet Explorer, searching the Web by scrolling and navigating to find information. The Basic Computer class is a pre-requisite. Class size is limited.
